October 27, 2014: Use a Crock Pot
On Mondays, I’ve been sharing some helpful and budget friendly tips, including recipes, to get dinner on the table in a tasty and thrifty way…have you discovered my secret?
If you haven’t noticed, one of my favorite ways to save time while still imparting flavor is to use a crockpot.
I used to think a crockpot was just for casseroles before I lived in the south, but boy was I wrong. A crockpot saves you money in two major ways:
one it uses a lot less electricity than your standard conventional oven and
two, it doesn’t heat up the whole house (in the summertime especially) like an oven does, thereby keeping your overall electric costs down.
Not to mention, the slow cooking technique of a crockpot imparts a ton of flavor while keeping food moist and juicy, even with cheaper cuts of meat.
