IN MY LIFE:
I’m embarrassed to admit this, but even though I’m in my 40’s, I still get that feeling in the pit of my stomach like I’ve been called into the principal’s office. Do you know what I mean? It’s that feeling of uncertainty, apprehension and waiting.
This can happen when a text, email or phone call goes unanswered for what feels like a longer than normal amount of time. If it’s a friend, I wonder if I’ve said something to offend them. If it’s a work pitch, I start doubting my abilities. If it’s a text, I re-read it over and over again to see if I used the wrong emoji or it could have been interpreted in a mean-spirited way.
I wish I knew why I continue to get these feelings. I grew up as a perpetual people-pleaser, so I lived the majority of my life this way. However, I truly felt like I’d found freedom from this when I came to know Christ. But the truth remains, I’m still human and I still care about what other people think and still doubt myself from time to time.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who feels this way. If this describes you, what truths do you remind yourself of to bring you out of the pit?
PRAYER FOCUS: Truth
May we all stay focused on the truth and what is true in the moment, rather than the lies of what could be.
