Today I’m sharing a message that is not only important, but very close to my heart: it’s the time of year to pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.
Not only is this something we’ve done as a family for years, I’ve actually had the extreme privilege of traveling to Ecuador with Operation Christmas Child to personally hand out shoeboxes to children in need.
Perhaps what’s even more amazing is that I’ve been able to meet adults who received OCC shoeboxes as children and hear about the transformation and impact it had on their lives.
But one of the most important lessons I learned, in addition to the first-hand experiences of the recipients I’ve met, had to do with WHAT to pack in the shoeboxes AND what to pack it in. I’ll admit, in the past I used to pack whatever I could find at the cheapest price. But after sitting on concrete and handing a box I packed to a little girl and watching her open it in front of me, I’ve never packed a shoebox the same way: now we only offer our best and personally pray over each item and each potential recipient.
