IN MY LIFE:
Today is my son’s 12th birthday! Last night, Facebook reminded me of his 3rd birthday and the video of him walking down the stairs on his birthday morning to discover a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse wonderland. Listening to his sweet little voice as he walked down the stairs and looked upon his decorations and presents in amazement made me realize just how quickly this all happens.
I was reminded in small group this week that when it comes to parenting, “The days are long, but the years are short”; this phrase has never been more true. We may not have cute little toddlers running around at our feet anymore, but we do only have a handful of years left with our children in our home and it’s up to us as parents to truly make the most of them.
So what did my son want? He asked to eat dinner at The Melting Pot, which we did last night because last night was the final day of their “Endless Entree” promotion, plus we had a Valpak coupon for $20 off an $80 purchase, making the experience even more affordable.
Believe it or not, he actually told us not to worry about getting him gifts (though we did get him one); instead, what he really wants is time with us. I love that he still wants to spend time with us; I know that won’t always be the case.
We do still have one more surprise for him, but you’ll have to tune in tomorrow to see what that is…
