Sorry to miss you yesterday, but it was quite a blur. In addition to a mentoring group I take part in every other Tuesday, the kids and I also attended the MNPS School Choice Fair which was a bit overwhelming, but enlightening.
One thing I’ve learned over the years and hope to encourage you with today is to be an advocate for your children. Case in point: because the kids’ school they were attending didn’t have orchestra and the same holds true now that we’re homeschooling, I reached out to the principal of their zoned middle school (where K attended 6th grade) to see if she could once again participate with their orchestra. It was not only approved, she was welcomed to do so!
All that to say, evaluate what each of your kids needs and work with them to make it happen, even if it doesn’t look like what everyone else is doing. I was also sharing with another homeschool mom that we’re tackling one subject a day and digging deep, instead of trying to do every subject every day. I was finding that right as they were getting into a groove in one subject, they were then having to switch gears and a lot of time was being wasted, not to mention the concepts were not fully sinking in. She told me she’d never heard of that before!
I’m not saying you have to do life our way, but I am encouraging you to question why you do what you do in an effort to discover the best fit for your family (for school and every aspect of your lives!)
