For the past couple weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to try out the Samsung Galaxy S9 (complete with the Bixby translation feature). I’ve been an Apple iPhone girl for years, but after seeing a friend take a “focused selfie” on the S9 while at Dollywood earlier this year, I HAD to see it in action for myself!
My friends at Verizon shipped me the sample and it arrived just in time for my daughter’s birthday. There were SO many things that impressed me about the camera, including settings specifically for food photography and even wide selfies (think “panorama” swipe functionality, but for a group selfie…or a groupie, if you will).
What surprised me was just how well the camera functioned in low light situations. We went to dinner in a dark restaurant and I was able to capture both group shots and action shots (like my girl blowing out her candle) with ease.
Then we went to see the incredible Cirque du Soleil. My arena/event/concert coverage is usually lackluster, but with the help of the Samsung S9, I could do no wrong. For someone like me who isn’t a natural photographer, I appreciated how natural is was to use the camera while still getting amazing results.
Now, I will admit, the rest of the phone wasn’t as intuitive for me and it felt small in my palm after using the iPhone 7+ for almost 2 years, but I would imagine any new device has a learning curve. For me, it was all about that camera though and I would seriously consider buying it for that feature alone.
