IN MY LIFE
Yesterday, my son got back on the tennis court for the first time in a long time because of a series of injuries. The coach of his new school team wanted to see him play and, despite thunder & rain interrupting him after only 15 minutes, he did great.

Speaking of tennis, today he and I will embark on a road trip together to fulfill a dream of his: attending his first professional tennis tournament: The Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. And it turns out this isn’t just any pro tournament, it is one of the premier stops on the pro tour, attracting the best male AND female players in the world, including his favorites like Federer, Murray, Nadal and Djokovic.
Tomorrow is “Kids’ Day” and Sunday is “High School Day”, with special events for those age groups while the qualifying matches are being played. Men’s First Round starts Sunday night and we’ll be there, but in the meantime, we’ll be testing the tournament’s motto of getting “up close and personal” with the players as we watch them practice and get as many of his idols to sign a larger than life tennis ball!
And if either of the Williams sisters need a hitting partner, I’ll make myself available… #JustSaying
Side note, my daughter is having a sleepover with some friends from church to celebrate her 14th birthday tonight. I know it’s not the princess parties of her youth, but my heart hurts a little knowing this will be the first ‘birthday party’ I’m missing.
