Team USA swimming has two sisters with Nashville roots. I got to speak with Gretchen Walsh & Alex Walsh, Harpeth Hall alumni, before they headed to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Walsh Sisters Interview

Learn More about these Olympic Swimming Sisters

During our time together, I asked these swimming sisters the following questions:

As a parent, I have to ask…what have your parents said about having you both compete in the Olympics? Is it a double pleasure or double nervousness for them?

The Olympics, obviously, is the pinnacle for any athlete, but it’s interesting because it’s every four years. So some people may miss out on their opportunity because they weren’t at their peak in that Olympic trial period; where do you all feel like you are in terms of being ready for this Olympic games THIS year?

Where would you go in Nashville to cheer on Team USA if you weren’t in Paris competing?

You’re probably looking forward to eating some things in Paris, but are there any Nashville favorites you love to eat at?

As siblings, obviously you’re not competing against each other (Thank God), but do you ever get to offer each other some tips or critiques, or do you just leave that for the coaches? How do you interact as swimmers and not just sisters?

This is Their Moment

Gretchen Walsh didn’t make the team in Tokyo, and she believes this is her year.

“This is my moment. I’ve been working really hard.”

While I spoke to the sisters before they left for Paris, I can now tell you that Gretchen Walsh brought home four medals: 2 Gold & 2 Silver.

Unfortunately, older sister Alex was disqualified from the 200 meter IM for an illegal turn. The Walsh sisters are one of six sibling pairs competing in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

This interview originally appeared on the August 2024 episode of The Sami Cone Show.
