After a year and a half of avoiding surgery, I’m going to the hospital on Friday and I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. Let me tell you a piece of the story…
The Surgery I Waited For {Daily Dash: February 25, 2025}
IN MY LIFE:
About 17 months ago, I had a procedure to try to clear up some issues I was having with my period and discover what else might be at the root of my problems. It was determined that not only did I have adenomyosis, a hysterectomy was the only cure.
I love the wisdom and knowledge doctors provide, but I don’t jump to medications or surgery. I’ve tried everything I could think of to alleviate the issue, from nutrition and prayer to acupuncture and functional medicine. When complications arose last month, a trip to the specialist determined these new issues necessitated surgery. The only problem is that I also found out I’m losing my health insurance on March 3.
For a while, I beat myself up over not having the hysterectomy earlier. But then I realized if I had the surgery, I would never have discovered the other issues. Then, an answer to prayer came that I didn’t even know to ask for (but my kids did). The surgeon fit me into her schedule this week!
So the moral of this story is to pray specific prayers, share your burdens with those closest to you (they may think to pray for things you don’t!), and be open to receiving help. That last one has been hard for me, but I’m doing my best to recognize that just as I desire to help others, there are people who want to help me too.
So please send all your positive thoughts and prayers up at Noon this Friday. I could use them all! It’s a 6-8 week recovery, so I’m not sure when I’ll be back on the dash, but you know you can’t keep me away for long
