IN MY LIFE:
For years we’ve been trying to get to the source of my son’s debilitating headaches. I don’t know why it took us so long to diagnose them as migraines, but that’s what we finally did last year.
Still, the headaches come often and frequently lead to him vomiting and then falling asleep for the rest of the night. After finally visiting a pediatric neurologist and taking a sleep quiz, she determined he needed a pediatric sleep study.
So that’s exactly what we’re doing. Thankfully we live in Nashville with one of the most amazing children’s hospitals at Vanderbilt University. We did have to wait 3 months for the appointment. Last night was the sleep study for kids and then he’s staying today for a nap study. Hopefully, in 2-3 weeks, we’ll finally have some answers.
There may be many reasons to consider a pediatric sleep study for your child. For us, it came after exhausting all other possible causes, including an EKG and MRI. All I can say is that you have to trust your gut as a parent and advocate for yourself and your child.
I tell you all this because I didn’t even know they could perform a child sleep study. If you feel like you’ve exhausted all other traditional options (especially with your teen), you may want to look into a sleep study.
I’ll keep you posted on what we learn in the coming weeks. One thing I do appreciate about the Vanderbilt Sleep Study over other centers is that they’re located in a Marriott hotel. So instead of being inside of a stale hospital room, you actually get to sleep in a comfortable setting.
PRAYER FOCUS: Servant’s Heart
I can’t wait for you to hear about the guests I’ll be talking to on next month’s episode of The Sami Cone Show as we’ll be pointing you to ways to help our neighbors in new ways. But for now, I pray we all embrace a servant’s heart as we approach what the day holds for us.
