You all heard me stress on my last Talk of the Town appearance (Saving on your Summer Road Trip) how important it is not only to calculate the cost of your summer vacation, but also the cost of actually getting to your destination! We’ve stayed at quite a few chains on the road and have been disappointed by many of them, even with some well known chains.
We look for hotels along the route that are new (or recently renovated), clean, safe and offer free extras (like WiFi and breakfast). The one hotel chain that we’ve found in the past couple years that consistently exceeds all our expectations is Holiday Inn Express.
This isn’t an official review, so don’t quote me on this, but from what I can tell, they’ve re-branded themselves, so almost all their hotels are brand new. They’ve got great beds, flat screen televisions, modern bathrooms and friendly service. And while I wouldn’t say the breakfast is gourmet, they always have a variety of hot and cold offerings, including waffles, yogurt, fruit, pastries, hard boiled eggs, juice and coffee.
I bring this up now because we’re taking an impromptu road trip to Florida because my grandmother just passed away. I was about to look for a Holiday Inn Express in Georgia that we could stop at for the night, so I thought I’d share this little tidbit of info with you all while I was thinking about it 😉
