 Save Money on Summer Grilling

August 22, 2014: Save Money on Summer Grilling

Everyone loves to grill out during the summer, but did you know it can actually benefit your budget?

Grilling is a quick and healthy way to impart great flavor into your food, but it can actually help you save a ton of money.

To begin with, it keeps you from turning on the stove and oven in your home, saving you both on electricity and overall cooling costs.

Grilled meats also taste best when marinated and when you marinate, you can buy a cheaper cut of meat and it will still turn out tender.

Another way is to cook a kabob – you use smaller pieces of meat and then add lots of less-expensive, fresh summer veggies to round it out.

I’ve learned grilling is healthy, imparts a lot of flavor and can be done quite economically. Just follow these tips:

Number one: Marinate! You can always go for a cheaper cut of meat if you marinate it. (think skirt steak)

Also, wrap it up! A foolproof way to cook fish or chicken is to wrap it in foil with some vegetables and a little butter or stock.

Another way is to cook a kabob – you use smaller pieces of the most expensive part, the meat and then add lots of cheap and fresh summer veggies to round it out.
