My family and I got to experience the newest Nashville Pollo Tropical restaurant before the grand opening and I have just one word: delicioso!

Though Pollo Tropical has been around since 1988 and is not new to those of us who have lived in South Florida, the Miami based restaurant chain that features Caribbean flavors is featuring its new restaurant design in their new Nashville locations.
The Madison location just opened on July 8 at 2003 Gallatin Pike North and the Nashville West location opens on July 29 and is located at 6704 Charlotte Pike.
The Nashville West Grand Opening celebration will begin at 9am and will feature the following:
Spin and Win prizes
Hoop Shot Challenge where contestants can compete for 1st and 2nd place prizes of $500 & $300 to go to their favorite charity
Giveaways
Caricaturist Drawings
Interactive Games, Balloon Twister and Face Painting
In fact, the first 100 guests will get a coupon for a free “Create your own Family meal” as well as be entered into a raffle drawing for the grand prize of “Free Chicken for a Year”.
You can also get a better look inside the new Pollo Tropical Nashville West restaurant from my Daily Dash video:
Though Pollo Tropical started with and is most famous for its Grilled Chicken, White Rice, Black Beans, Plantains (my favorite!) and Yuca, the menu has greatly expanded, including its Tropical Lite menu featuring options under 500 calories.
We love Pollo Tropical because even though you can get your food fast (& through a drive-thru), this is not your typical fast food establishment. The allow amazing customization (especially through items like their TropiChop) at a great value, with many meal options right around $5.
The also boast a full kitchen on site where they do everything from soak beans overnight to freshly chop onions and garlic for all their dishes. For those of us with dietary restrictions, many options are also gluten and dairy free.

And I’m not typically one for sauces, but with flavors like Mustard Curry, Pineapple Rum and Cilantro Lime, it’s hard to pass by Saucing Island without picking up a mini-tray to fill up!
The only criticisms were that the ribs, while delicious in flavor, are not the “fall of the bone” tender like I’ve become accustomed to while living in Nashville. Also, my daughter who LOVES their corn and yellow rice, did not like all the vegetables in her yellow rice yesterday and said it didn’t taste as “buttery” as she remembers it.
Between all of us, we sampled everything from their Citrus Salad and Chicken Quesadilla to their Pulled Pork and Corn Casserole, and everyone walked away happy.

Of course, you won’t want to forget dessert. My daughter loves their Guava Bar which is only 99 cents (but comes free with the kids meal), or you can dig your fork into a Tres Leches cake, Guava Cheesecake or Vanilla Flan.
I’d still rather eat a bowl of Plantains 🙂
So mark your calendar, grab your sleeping bag, and get ready to camp out for the Pollo Tropical Grand Opening at Nashville West on Friday because, after all, “Life is Better Under the Palm”.
Disclosure: We did not have to pay for the delicious food we sampled and were not influenced on what to put in this post. All commentary and opinions are my own.
