“Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. the people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.”
Exodus 16:4
Why do we not believe the Lord when he tells us we will have enough…
Enough for the Day: Devotion Day 35
I can’t imagine what it’s like to be hungry. Even in the moment’s of my life when it felt like we’d lost everything, God has always provided for us.
Sometimes it was groceries showing up on our front doorstep anonymously. Other times it was a gift card arriving in the mail. I’ve also been the recipient of a check in the mail because a friend felt moved by God to send us a certain amount of money.
But I’ve never woken up in the morning wondering where I would live or where my next meal would come from. So I cannot imagine what I would do if I had nothing and then all of a sudden food came raining down from the heavens and I was told to only take enough for the day.
I would doubt. I would worry. I would want to hoard.
And yet throughout the Bible, especially in Exodus, I have the comfort of reading God’s word repeatedly reminding us not to worry, that he is in control and that there will be enough.
Years ago as I was processing a traumatic event in counseling, God brought these words of comfort to me:
I am secure. I am healthy. I am enough.
Then in 2020, amidst a global pandemic and the end of my marriage, I heard the following:
God knows my name, he hears my voice and he will always provide.
I don’t know what you will take away from this devotion. But if my words don’t resonate with you, I pray you will ask God to speak new words to you to remind you that you are enough and will have enough for the day.
