But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” – Gen 32:26b
Sometimes the most difficult of circumstances bring the greatest blessing…
Devotion Day 23: Wrestling with God
While none of us like to suffer, I find that’s when we truly meet God.
After all, when everything is going smoothly in our lives, we don’t always find the need to call out to God. And even when we do, it’s not with the same heart as when we are flat on our backs suffering in pain.
Jacob found himself in a similar situation in Genesis 32, wrestling overnight with a “man” and refused to let go until God blessed him.
Was Jacob punished for such a strong will? To the contrary – he was blessed and commended for struggling with God and eventually overcoming.
We have to be willing to hold fast to God no matter what life throws our way.
I learned from my mentor, Jackie Kendall, many years ago that “blessings come on the other side of obedience”. Obedience doesn’t always mean understanding in the moment, but it does mean following the one who we understand loves us more than anything or anyone else.
What are you struggling with today? Submit it to God and you just might discover blessings on the other side of the struggle.
