The fear of the Lord – that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding. – Job 28:28b
Human wisdom will never equal godly wisdom, but we can demonstrate integrity by following His commands even when we don’t understand…
Day 10 Devotion: Integrity
Job 27 is titled “Job’s Final Word to His Friends” and in verses five & six, we find the words that, for me, sum up one of the most important moments of his experience altogether:
I will never admit you are in the right;
till I die; I will not deny my integrity.
I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it;
my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live.
While reading Job, we’ve experienced many emotions and characteristics, yet if any ring true above all, it’s Job’s integrity. Even in his days of pain, anguish and confusion, he never denied or cursed God.
The “Reflection” on Job 28 in the Once a Day Chronological Bible says that, “Up to this point in the book of Job, both Job and his friends have failed in their attempts to apply principles of human wisdom to the reality of human suffering…It seems that we’re all born with an insatiable desire to understand life and what’s happening around us and to us. That’s fine as long as we’re taking our questions to God.”
In the midst of suffering, and even once we’re out of the darkest of pits, all we often have to cling to is God and our integrity.
While the truth of our situation may never make sense to us, the truth of God always will. (Click to Tweet)
