November 21, 2014: National Shoebox Collection Week: Candy
Today’s final National Shoebox Collection Week tip may surprise you…
The final tip I have for packing your OCC shoeboxes is to add…CANDY!
Yes, you heard me right – a sweet treat seems to be universal. I realize some may not consider this a necessity and may in fact believe they’re not helping the underprivileged by adding candy. However, the simple act of adding a lollipop (in a plastic bag of course) can bring such an amazing smile to a child, especially when everyone around them is receiving the same thing.
Just make sure you don’t add out of date candy or chocolate – make sure to include something your own kids would be excited about receiving themselves.
And perhaps the most important inclusion of all is to add a family picture with a note and your address. Kids loved seeing who their boxes come from and if you add your physical or email address, you might just get a reply back!
