What can golfers new to Gaylord Springs expect when they come out?
They can expect a private club atmosphere in a public resort setting. They will love the experience.
What are you hearing from those who haven’t played the course in awhile?
The golf course is in great condition. We have been making improvements to the golf course, undergone a major bunker (sand trap) renovation, and put in 9 more forward tees. The bunkers are the new Billy Bunker drainage and have been reshaped and repositioned to frame the hole. The bunkers are now more playable to the recreational golfer. You could say bunkers are the jewelry of the golf course and the Gaylord Springs new bunkers are the best of the best.
Which are your favorite holes and why?
There are three holes that stand out now. 3 and 13 have stack sod faced bunkers which are very unique. Number 16 is the only hole in the state of TN that have church pews bunkers very unique and reminiscent of Oakmont outside Pittsburgh.
How do the new bunkers affect play on the course?
The new bunkers allow golfers to move around the course at a better pace. They are much fairer and easier to play, making them much more playable for the average golfer.
For those of us who aren’t regular golfers, what would you compare the renovations to?
The bunkers are traditional Donald Ross inspired, classic bunkers. They are flat bottom, grass faced bunkers and filled with with Tour angular white sand. Not that we are the same as Augusta National, but we now have the same exact sand as Augusta National where the Masters is played!
Why do you think so many people are trying golf who haven’t before?
People may have more time in their hands. They want to be outdoors. Golf is a sport that the entire family can play. There is freedom in open space. All ages can play. The recreational and avid golfer can find playing fun and challenging.
Can people just come out to use the driving range & facilities?
Yes. We are a public golf course and driving range. Also, kids golf for FREE after 3pm certain days with a paid adult.
What type of classes and teaching do you offer?
We offer private golf instruction as well as group sessions for all levels of golfers.
