There are so many things I love about living in Nashville, but one of the things I never take for granted is how much we have to see and do right in our backyard. On this month’s show, I’m giving you a deeper look into some incredible Nashville events and artists.

I start with a trip to one of my favorite places to stay and play in Nashville, Gaylord Opryland Resort, where this summer, guests of all ages can experience Pirate and Princess-themed activities and engage in swashbuckling fun!

Next, you’ll join me on the red carpet for the 9th annual K-LOVE Fan Awards at the Grand Ole Opry House, where I caught up with many of the nominees, presenters and performers before the show.

Finally, I sit down with the top winners of the night, the brothers of for KING & COUNTRY, Joel & Luke Smallbone, and get an in-depth look into the family dynamics behind their music.

I can’t wait for you to get to know more about some of the people and places in our backyard that are so special to me.

Episode 34 of The Sami Cone Show aired on Friday, June 10, 2022, and re-aired on Saturday, June 11.

Get Personal with the Brothers behind for KING & COUNTRY

I’ve known Joel & Luke for years, but I’ve never had the chance to talk to them like this on-air. Go behind the music to hear about their families and the struggles that have made them stronger, as brothers and as artists.

Before I Go, I Need You to Know: Stay in the Tension

During our interview, Joel Smallbone told us how important it is to stay in the tension. In relationships, it can be easy to bail out when things get hard.

My natural response is to want to shut down OR, if things, get really hard, to run away. But that’s not how we grow as humans or in our interactions.

The brothers also said that if you’re going to love, you’re going to get hurt. Honestly, that’s not what we want to hear..and that’s certainly not what the RomCom’s promise us!

Most of us just want to love and be loved. But more often than we’d care to admit, love can hurt.

But when two people genuinely love and respect each other, they find a way to circle back to what they appreciate and admire instead of focusing on the momentary infractions and offenses.

One of the most well-known passages in the Bible on love is in 1 Corinthians chapter 13. We often hear verses 4 & 5 at weddings,

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.”

But listen to verse 7:

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

Now please hear me, I’m not suggesting that any of us should stay in an abusive situation. To the contrary: that is the antithesis of love. If you believe you could be in danger, please reach out for help to a trusted friend or local authority.

Instead, my prayer for all of us today is that we would find the kind of love that resonates with verse 6: one that does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out..and once we do, that we would stay in that tension to love well and seek to bring out the best in one another.

Wardrobe Sponsor: Lilly Pulitzer

Pilar linen tunic dress from Lilly Pulitzer

After having trouble finding just the right outfit at Lilly Pulitzer last month, I wasn’t sure what would await me at the Green Hills mall this month. Turns out, there were so many great options, I had trouble choosing!

Ultimately, I went with the Pilar Linen Tunic Dress. I would call it a light chambray, but its official color is “Beckon Blue X Sea Salt Blue”. I love it because I can see myself wearing it so many places and even packing it on vacations. It’s easy to dress up or down. And I’m already anticipating pairing it with boots and a sweater for fall.

I went to get groceries after filming in it and received compliments as soon as I walked in the store. This is a dress you want to RUN to buy before it sells out.

Jewelry Sponsor: Kendra Scott

My Pilar dress from Lilly Pulitzer provided a solid canvas for my jewelry selection this month. Kennedy & Alyssa at Kendra Scott Green Hills showed me earrings from their Summer 2 collection that just came out this week and I was immediately attracted to the Maisie Gold Statement Tassel earrings.

Believe it or not, they aren’t heavy at all either!

Because the earrings make such a statement on their own, I decided against a coordinating rope bracelet, but instead went with the classic look of the Fallyn band ring and cuff bracelet.

Here are direct links to the Kendra Scott jewelry I wore on the show:
