Before I Go, I Need You to Know: Just Because You Can Doesn’t Mean You Should
I created a little bit of a stir on Instagram recently when I made a bold statement by saying, “I’m good at what I do.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m usually the first to be self-critical. I can always find something I wish I would have said or done differently. But if I’m not going to believe in myself, who else will?
After filming 3 different segments in 3 different locations three days in a row, I came face to face with the reality that I know what my gifting is, and I know when it’s time to ask for help from others in areas I’m not good at.
This brought me to another important realization: Just because I CAN do something doesn’t mean I SHOULD do something.
In my business and personal life, there are many things I can accomplish, but because they don’t come easily or naturally to me, it often takes me twice as long as others.
I used to lament this fact and beat myself up for not being good at everything. But now I’m learning to listen to God for where I should spend my efforts and energy, and let go of the rest.
So instead of apologizing for what you’re not good at, start to focus on your calling while allowing others to shine in theirs.
