Before I Go, I Need You to Know: What You Believe Becomes Your Reality
It’s hard to believe it’s December already! As much as I enjoy everything that comes with the holidays, I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the challenges that also arise this time of year, regardless of whether or not we’re in the middle of a pandemic.
This is especially true of our kids.
It’s easy for us to get down on ourselves and focus on all the things we have to do, or rather, the things we don’t feel we’ll ever get done. So instead of asking them to be positive – which can seem like an impossible task in the midst of hard times – I just ask them not to be negative.
It may seem like a small difference, but it’s a step in the right direction.
So, if 2020 seems like too much, start by believing it could be different, because change starts in our minds.
Before I go, allow me to read you Philippians 4:6-8 from The Message; it’s a passage of scripture that both brings me peace and reminds me of the importance of being deliberate about what we focus on:
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
What does that mean for us today? Ask God to change your heart and pray that your actions follow your convictions. While we can’t predict the future, we can be purposeful in changing our tomorrow.
