Everyone seems to be in an uproar because the famous Duggar Family (from the TLC show “19 Kids & Counting”) announced that they are pregnant again…bringing their total to 20 kids! Everyone seems to have an opinion, yet how much do they really know…
What we don’t know often scares us.
Think of the woods: they look beautiful from the outside, but deep within the trees are often poisonous plants and animals that can kill.
Does that stop us from driving through national parks, hiking or even camping? Of course not.
What that knowledge does is make us more aware of the depth of nature and helps us prepare so that we can better deal with the unknown. And just because you go into the woods does not mean you have to become an animal yourself, but simply appreciate it more.
Why do I bring all this up?
From the little I know of the Duggars, I have yet to see a family with such evident convictions and beliefs who are equally warm and welcoming to others. Frequently, people who have such strong convictions can come across as judgmental and steer clear from associating with others who don’t share their beliefs.
I do not see that happening with the Duggar Family.
What I see is a consistency of love amidst their family with an unwavering approach to love God through serving others. Those who are casting stones at them don’t know them personally…and don’t seem to want to get to know anything about them. Is it like a fear of the woods – where they are afraid of getting too close because they don’t know what will jump out at them? Or is it because if they get too close they are afraid they will get sucked into their lifestyle?
Either would be a silly assumption, but possibly not that far off from the truth.
Regardless of where you stand in the spectrum, the truth is, it doesn’t matter. Our time would be much better spent loving on our own families rather than worrying about whether or not another family has too many kids to handle. After all, where does worrying get us in the end anyway?
What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

Well said!
Very well said! I don’t understand why people get so upset over this. I think the Duggers are raising a very fine but very large family! 🙂 My hat off to them!
I just posted on this topic a few days ago. I have been so surprised by the reaction, specifically in the christian community, to news of this pregnancy. I am happy for them and wish them well.
