It’s Day 2 of our budget home renovation and we’re moving right into painting prep!
Because of our need for quick turnaround time, we’re bringing in our new friend Scott (of Pro Home Solutions) to help us paint, but we’re helping our budget by doing some of the prep work. We’ve always painted our homes ourselves with “oops” paint found at the major home improvement stores, but because we needed to get rid of a strong tobacco smell and stains, this is what we’re doing:
Some tips we learned to save on your painting budget, even when hiring a professional:
1. Do all the prep work yourself: remove all window hangings, light switch plates, etc.
2. Fill the nail holes and sand them
3. Save the trim for yourself and paint it after the professionals do the walls & the ceilings
4. Paint the majority of your home in the same color – this saves on labor and supplies because the painter isn’t taking the time to switch brushes and doesn’t have to buy a lot of individual gallons of paint color
Do you have any tips on how to save on painting your home on a budget (other than doing it yourself!)?
