The National Civics Bee kicks off in Tennessee in 2024 for Middle School Students!
Civics education is important for the future of our country and the involvement of the next generation.
The Civics Bee in Tennessee
The Tennessee Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and five chambers of commerce across Tennessee to host a first-of-its-kind statewide civics competition. The 2023-24 National Civics Bee encourages young Americans in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade to engage in civics and contribute to their communities.
The competition, modeled on traditional spelling and geography bees, gives students the chance to win recognition and earn cash prizes by sharing ideas for improving their communities and showing their enthusiasm for civics.
The winner of the National Civics Bee Tennessee State Finals will be invited to Washington, DC to compete in the inaugural National Civics Bee national championship in Fall 2024.
TV Interview with Chamber of Commerce
I sat down with Sarah Burnett, the Chief of Staff for the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce, where she oversees organizational strategy and collaborates with external partners to advance the Chamber’s mission of advocating for the business community and promoting economic growth. Sarah also serves as the Director of the Chamber’s Foundation where she manages workforce development and education efforts.
When is the Tennessee Civics Bee?
The first-annual National Civics Bee Tennessee contest is on Friday, May 3, 2024. It will be held at the Wilson County Fairgrounds (James E. Ward Ag Center) from 1-3 PM.
State finalists from across Tennessee will compete for a range of prizes, including $1,000 cash award for first place.
The winner of the State Finals will receive a trip to Washington, DC to compete in the inaugural National Civics Bee® championship in the Fall of 2024. The National Civics Bee® gives students an opportunity to share their thoughts, ideas, and voices about our community. It is also a way to increase their knowledge of civics.
