porters-steakhouseThe history, the flavor and the convenience…just a few reasons we chose to visit Porter’s Steakhouse while in Chattanooga.

Having just re-opened on July 1, Porter’s is Chattanooga’s only Chicago-style steakhouse. Known for their Pepperloin, Porter’s has brought back their classic favorites, like their Asiago Macaroni & Cheese, while introducing seasonal new creations, like fresh watermelon dressing on their arugula salad.

We appreciated the warm decor without the dark, stuffy feeling you often encounter in traditional steakhouses. While some restaurants make you feel like a number, we felt welcomed and appreciated from the moment we walked in. Our server was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, but perhaps what I appreciated the most was that she was attentive without hovering (a rare quality these days).

The manager also checked in with us and even brought out a sample of her favorite dish – the risotto – at the end of our meal because she noticed we hadn’t ordered it. I have to admit, I’ve never been a fan of risotto (in fact I always make fun of it when I watch them make it week after week on Hell’s Kitchen), but this was almost better than dessert! I was so full, but I couldn’t stop eating it!

Ok, so now that you’re salivating, I know you’re dying to find out what we actually feasted on. We started our meal with the Black Mission Goat Cheese Tart drizzled with Aged Balsamic Vinegar. It was the one dish I heard every person in the hotel recommend…and it did not disappoint. We followed that with the fresh Watercress, Arugula & Strawberry Salad; I expected it to be a bit sweeter, but still a nice note in our meal.

For entrees, Alexis chose another Porter’s favorite – the Filet Oscar (my fork may or may not have crossed over to her plate) and I indulged in the Rosemary Colorado Lamb Chops. At first I was disappointed that they did not have my traditional favorite accompagniment, mint jelly, but after one bite I realized I didn’t need it. I cannot tell you the last time I’ve tasted meat with so much flavor!

Though it was hard to narrow down our dessert choices, we finally landed on the Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp (I’m a sucker for anything that ressembles a fruit pie) and the Warm Molten Chocolate Cake with Fresh Berries. Need I say more? Delish.

Let me end by saying that this is not your average hotel restaurant (though I also cannot explain in words how great it was to be able to just walk out of the restaurant, up to our room and fall into our Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bed – pure heaven!). Perhaps even better was that we found out you can tweak anything in -house AND order off the Porter’s menu in your room! Boy, would I have been in trouble if I had known that before dining there…
