I sat down with hit songwriter Desmond Child for an interview about his new book.
The iconic award-winning Latin Grammy and Emmy-nominated songwriter/producer just released his first-ever memoir, “LIVIN’ ON A PRAYER: BIG SONGS BIG LIFE” – his personal story of anguish and struggle that reveals how he climbed his way to the top and beyond amid extraordinary circumstances.
Who Has Desmond Child Worked With?
Desmond Child has contributed to some of the biggest global hits that helped ignite the success of music icons, including:
- KISS
- Bon Jovi
- Aerosmith
- Alice Cooper
- Ricky Martin
- Katy Perry
- Barbra Streisand
- Diana Ross
- and countless others
He says the key is to have equal parts hustle and talent. And as Dolly Parton advises, to stay an active participant in the music business.
What Motivated Desmond Child to Write His Memoir
“Livin’ on a Prayer: Big Songs Big Life” was a long time in the making.
Desmond moved to Nashville with his family years ago. His motivation for writing the book was for his sons to get to know the real him. It was like a 7-year confession, a real reckoning with his mind.
His collaborator, legendary music biographer David Ritz, got down to the heart of it all. Sharing his very intimate and unbelievable journey that shaped him into an artist of international renown, it’s all in the book now for the world to see.
Desmond’s Favorite Song He Wrote
Before I finished my interview with Desmond, I had to ask if he could pick a favorite song amongst everything he’s written over the years. He admitted one of his favorite songs is “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi because it’s more than a song; it’s an event whenever it’s played.
Other Desmond Child songs that became hits include Ricky Martin’s “Livin La Vida Loca” and “The Cup of Life”.
