Have you ever wondered how to make a wreath step by step? Even for those of us who consider ourselves design-challenged or non-crafty, we still want to decorate our homes for the holidays to make our guests feel welcome.
How to Make a Wreath Step by Step
No one decorates for Christmas better than Gaylord Opryland, so I called upon their Chief Horticulture Engineer, Megan McDugald, to teach us how to make a wreath for Christmas with style and simplicity.
Megan leads the team of horticulture “STARS” who deck the halls of this world-renowned resort’s 36th Annual A Country Christmas. Let’s learn how to decorate at home…and make your home and table look lush like the Opryland resort.
Step by Step Directions to Make a Christmas Wreath:
- Start with a small cluster of greens and use floral wire to wire it together at the stems.
- Then take another bunch of greens and layer that bunch on top of the first, wiring it together.
- Continue to add layers until you get around to where you started and then wire it into a circle.
If you watched me make a wreath on the show, you’ll notice we put the clusters of greens on a wreath base, which I found online at Michaels for as little as $2. I truly learned that you can’t mess this up. In fact, the more varied you make your evergreen bundles, the prettier it is.
Where to Find Free Evergreen Branches
Every year when we buy our fresh Christmas tree, whether at Home Depot or outside a grocery store, they always have a ton of evergreen branches. Think about it. When the cut the bottom of a tree after people buy them, they’re left with a ton of branches scattered everywhere. Most establishments are happy to give these away.
You can also look in your yard for evergreen branches (or pine, holly, magnolia, etc). Just don’t go into your neighbor’s yard without asking!
