IN MY LIFE:
Even though we have yet to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in Nashville with the arrival of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas! The stage adaptation of this favorite holiday film opened at TPAC last night and will be in town until November 18.
Next to Christmas vacation, White Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie, so I was literally over the moon when I discovered it was returning to Music City. (I was secretly hoping they’d call me for a guest role, but alas, that has yet to happen).
TPAC provided tickets for me and my family to attend last night. I LOVED that it was a show you could truly bring the entire family to; in fact, we saw many multi-generational families in attendance, even on a school night! It brought all the Christmas spirit you expect, as well as PHENOMENAL dance numbers. (If you thought the art of tap dancing was beginning to wither away, just wait until you see this talented cast!).
One important note to point out: the stage production is NOT an exact copy of the film. My experience reminded me of the first time I saw Mary Poppins the Musical – as someone who can quote both movies almost verbatim, it was hard to watch the storyline get tweaked slightly. I was also disappointed that my favorite musical number, “Mandy”, did not make it to the stage. That being said, it was a beautiful production by a talented cast.
Speaking of holiday magic, the TPAC lobby is already decked out with a Christmas tree and holiday backdrops for your family photos. And one more insider tip before I let you go: TPAC has partnered with Goo Goo Clusters to create a new holiday-inspired candy to celebrate the arrival of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas the Musical coming to town.
The White Christmas Inspired Premium Goo Goo is a white chocolate shell filled with dark peppermint ganache, crushed chocolate sandwich cookies and peppermint nougat with a peppermint bark base. (Believe me, it was difficult for us not to dig in last night so I could show you what it looked like this morning!). Not only is the seasonal confection available now (for a limited time) at the Goo Goo Shop in downtown Nashville, it’s also available to purchase at TPAC concessions through December 25.
To see the show at TPAC’s Jackson Hall, visit TPAC.org or call 615-782-4040.
PRAYER FOCUS: Bold
Even though I didn’t get the call to join the cast on stage, I pray each of us are bold today: acting despite intimidating or uncomfortable circumstances.
