We enjoyed some true fall weather this past week, which allowed us to get outside and play in the yard. But when I tried to post our Nutcracker yard sign and take a picture of K by it, little brother decided to dive bomb the shot…

On Thanksgiving morning, I made our traditional holiday breakfast of Mexican Sausage Breakfast Casserole and Hash Brown Casserole.
We had an impromptu change of plans for Thanksgiving dinner, but couldn’t have imagined a better afternoon spent with friends that are like family to us!
On Thanksgiving night, we headed over to Opryland to spend the night and the very first thing we did was head over to experience ICE! with a “Twas the Night Before Christmas” theme this year. There was NO line – literally! Not only did we get in right away, we had no problem taking pictures and were able to go down the ice slides over and over again.

After that, it was a little too cold to walk around and enjoy the lights outside Gaylord Opryland, so we stayed warm and gazed at the beauty inside…

We typically get a picture of our entire family in front of the Pointsettia tree, but I couldn’t resist snapping this shot of my kiddos gazing up at this focal point of the Magnolia lobby.
The beautiful thing about staying at Gaylorld Opryland Resort on Thanksgiving is that you’re within walking/shuttle distance to Opry Mills Mall for Black Friday! We ended up heading over that way and not only did we not have to fight for parking, there were hardly ANY lines (But plenty of great deals!). The kids were especially proud of their Nike gear that we’d promised them when they started basketball (I mean seriously, how could this native Chicago mom say no to a pair of Air Jordan’s for her budding hoops girl?!)

Friday night we headed over to the Grand Ole Opry for a 5pm Rockettes show. This is the Rockette’s FINAL year in Nashville (Sniff, Sniff) so you KNOW we weren’t going to miss it!
You’re not allowed to take pictures/video of the show, but we did snap this family picture inside the Opry before the show began. I have to admit, this was my FAVORITE Rockettes show ever – I think it was slightly shorter than prior years, but they truly took the best of the best and even adapted a few of the acts to make it even tighter and more enjoyable for the audience.

After our time with the Rockettes, we actually walked back to Opry Mills to meet the Lee’s for a movie (obviously they hadn’t gotten enough of us the day before 🙂 We saw the Penguins of Madagascar and I can’t say I recommend it (though my kids liked it and there was a hilarious sequence of celebrity name dropping that all the adults cracked up at). After a little more shoe shopping for the kids, we walked back to Opryland so I could finally bask in their millions of lights.
At one point, I just sat down on a sidewalk and stared at the lights for what seemed like a half an hour. The weather was just perfect and for some reason it doesn’t feel like Christmas in Nashville until I’ve seen the lights at Opryland.
We woke up Saturday morning and planned on going swimming before checking out, but instead received an email that our application to foster a puppy from Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue had been approved and we had until Noon that day to pick her up. So you can guess what we did next…
We spend the rest of Saturday playing with the little ball of fur (a 7 week old Rottweiler mix aptly named “Plymouth”) and headed to Crosspoint’s main campus for church on Sunday morning at 9:30. I was thrilled to find my talented and equally witty friends @loswhit & @TrishaDavis23 leading worship too 🙂
Once home, we tackled some home improvement projects, which led to me removing our broken kitchen faucet and installing a new one! Granted it took me a few hours, but it works and it’s beautiful!
