Let’s face it, back to school mishaps happen!

Amidst all the excitement of going back to school, we’d be foolish if we didn’t admit there is our fair share of stress, confusion and yes, even times of forgetfulness.

And I’m not even going to mention all the times throughout the year I’ve asked my son before getting in the car, “Did you remember your lunch?”, only to get a phone call from the school secretary the minute I pull back into my driveway saying, you guessed it, that he forgot his lunch.

In hopes that you start your school year off on the right foot, here are 3 tips for avoiding your own back to school mishaps:

  1. Take your kids’ opinions into consideration
Whether it comes to their lunch options or shoes they’re wearing, allow your kids to have some input into what they bring to school. (Maybe your kids are ‘losing’ their school items because they’re not proud of them 😉 This doesn’t mean giving your kids free reign when it comes to making decisions, but at least consider giving them a choice between “A or B” or allowing them to do some of the back to school grocery shopping with you so they feel like they’re part of the back to school team.

  2. Keep a checklist by the door
After endless times of getting frustrated when my kids would forget their lunches or important school papers, I finally posted a list by the door. After all, if I’m prone to forget, wouldn’t it make sense my little people might suffer from the same maladie? I just created a simple chart that I placed within a sheet protector so they could literally check off all the important things they needed to accomplish each morning before walking out that door. It may seem mundane, but hey, whatever works, right?!

  3. Label all your kids’ school items
I wish you could have seen the “Lost & Found” at our kids’ school on the final day of school last year! We went down there looking for a hoodie, and instead we found what seemed to be some kids’ full school wardrobe AND locker! Seriously, I’m talking backpacks, embroidered sweaters, more t-shirts than I could imagine and yes, even the inevitable gym shorts. If only there had been name labels in these items, the rightful owners could have been identified and their parents wouldn’t have to spend a small fortune replacing school uniforms throughout the year.

One of the biggest problems I’ve found when it comes to labels is finding something that will go the distance – that won’t peel off two days into the school year or after one wash.

And for those of us with older kids, I don’t want my kids’ labels to look like I’m sending their sippy cup into the nursery with them!

That’s why I was grateful when I was introduced to Bright Star Kids. Not only do they have a variety of labels that (literally) cover everything from lunch boxes to shoes, but they come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes & colors so as to even appeal to those kids who don’t wish to be ‘labeled’ at school 😉

I’m partial to the Mega Name Labels Value Kit. Not only do you get over 340 labels (a savings of 35%), but you’ll also save an additional $5 off when you spend over $40. Did I mention my readers also get FREE shipping on all labels. All you have to do is enter promotional code “SCHOOL” at checkout.

Put a label on it! Kick off the school year right and prevent unnecessary mishaps. Reply below for $5 off your Bright Star Kids order.
