Gaylord Opryland ICE is BACK and cooler than ever for 2012 – literally!
This year’s theme is based on the new short feature “Shrek the Halls” and not only felt cooler in temperature than the past years, but seemed much more intricate than ever before.
The sculpture work in ICE! has always been beyond impressive, with over 40 artisans from China lending their talents for over 3 months to sculpt the millions of pounds of ice blocks that it takes to create this winter wonderland. But for some reason, this year’s “Shrek the Halls” themed ICE! seemed even more impressive than past years.
The representations were more detailed and true to form, the colors were brighter and the story told through the sculptures was even more fascinating.
At the same time, the attraction seemed even colder than ever! Of course, we all received the standard-issue blue parkas before entering to help stay warm in this frozen maze of scenes from DreamWorks’ animations’ Shrek the Halls that is kept at an average of 9 degrees, but we were still shivering. Of course, it would have helped if I’d brought gloves!
Another perennial favorite of ICE! are the 20 foot tall ICE! slides, some of which are 2 stories tall! You can click this link to watch my kids in action on the slides: ICE-slide-opryland
