Last Sunday, hundreds of us left the Crosspoint Church Bellevue Campus shoeless in 32 degree weather because of something now known as “Barefoot Sunday”.
Children’s new Christmas shoes were thrown into a box and traffic volunteers served in flip flops.

Why, you ask?
Because Pastor Pete Wilson challenged us to leave what we have for those who have nothing.
You could feel the air leave the room.We were getting ready to watch our children’s Christmas program. Family members had flown in for this service before Christmas. Everyone was dressed in their holiday finery. Oh…and did I mention it was also snowing outside?

There was no guilt, no explanation necessary if you didn’t want to leave your shoes. But for those who did, a statement was made:
We can replace what others cannot.
We can warm up in a home where others can’t.
Bottom line: we have what others have not.
Soles4Souls is a Nashville-based organization that takes shoes to people all over the world. We gave our kids the choice on whether or not they wanted to give their shoes to kids who didn’t have any. To be honest, I thought my daughter would push back a bit; she’d been waiting to wear her new ‘party shoes’ for months. But before I could even finish explaining to them why we were doing it, they were both peeling their shoes off.
We feel very grateful to be part of a church who literally walks the walk.
