Are you willing to spend the next 21 days with me bettering yourself and helping others…
21 Medium & ABLE Sale {The Daily Dash: February 1, 2022}
IN THE NEWS:
- Wordle sold to The NY Times
- another major winter storm moving through Midwest and Northeast
- Lunar New Year starts today, “The Year of the Tiger”
- First day of Black History Month
IN THE WORD:
Does my life betray the things I profess to teach? ~ Oswald Chambers
IN MY LIFE:
Have you heard of the 75 Hard program? Consider this my answer for middle-aged moms who are tired and for teenagers who have trouble committing to anything other than their Snapchat streaks.
In lieu of a big new year’s resolution, I wanted to commit to some healthy, daily practices (remember, we learned on last month’s episode of The Sami Cone Show that daily non-negotiables are better than one, big goal). With that, I created “21 Medium”. I know, the title needs some work, but the concept is solid: I want you to commit to do each of these 11 things for the next 21 days:
- Walk 20 minutes
- Say a prayer
- Forgive yourself and someone else out loud
- Don’t drink pop (or alcohol)
- Read a nonfiction article
- Text someone and tell them something you like about them or thank them
- Eat one vegetable and one fruit
- Drink half your body weight in water
- Sell something before you buy something similar
- Take care of your skin (moisturize!)
- Make a promise to yourself and keep it for 21 days (basically, commit to doing all 10 steps above!)
Obviously there’s some flexibility in what you see above. It’s not about doing any one thing, but essentially doing what I ask in #11 – making a commitment to yourself and following through with it! I designed these with myself and my teens in mind, but feel free to adapt as they make sense for you and your needs.
For example, if drinking pop (aka soda) or alcohol are not a big deal for you, substitute that with something you’ve been needing to take a break from (say social media or binge-watching Netflix). If you already eat a lot of veggies, say you’ll try one new veggie each day. If you don’t pray, commit to meditating for 5 minutes a day. The point is to start spending your time on things that matter (including practical self-care) and then shift the selfish tendencies we all have to focus on how we can help those around us.
What do you say, are you with me?
Finally, I didn’t want the day to pass without mentioning the ABLE Moving Forward online warehouse sale starts today and only lasts through tomorrow (2/2) – or until they sell out. You can shop in their flagship store here in Nashville or online.
PRAYER FOCUS: Integrity
I pray we all have the integrity to make (and keep) a promise to ourselves and to do what’s right even when no-one is looking. For a great message on integrity vs. appetites (plus an incredible graphic interpretation of Andy Stanley’s sermon notes), check out this post.
