Ok, so I’m getting hooked. I never knew Martha could be so normal!

Yesterday I mentioned how I admired Martha for publishing her personal calendar that inspired me to try something new daily. Well, in my continuing effort to make small changes every day to get more organized, I once again turn to Martha. Turns out she actually has a list for this (Insert pause here for your ‘gasp’ of not-surprise).

True, this shouldn’t surprise me, but I really don’t get around the web much. It’s all I can do just to keep up with my own website, let alone poke around other people’s! However, I’m all about lists, so it looks like I’ve got my hands full with Martha!

So here it is, Martha’s list of the Six Things to do Every Day. Most are a bit expected, but I really appreciate the reminder to sort and file mail right away. I am NOTORIOUS for little piles around my house. SO even though I know better, I still always leave little piles of mail around my house hoping that if I see it, I’ll tend to it. However, I get used to my own piles, so they just sit there! But no more!

Martha, I hear you loud and clear and will from now on open and sort my mail right away. Who knows; maybe I’ll even make some of those cute little cereal box organizers to sort it into…I should get ahead of myself. That’s another post for another day :)

Top 6 Things To Do Daily

1. Make the Bed
Tidiness begets tidiness. A crisply made bed makes the whole room seem more orderly, which makes it less likely that you’ll let other things — such as clothes and papers — pile up around it.

2. Manage Clutter
Whenever you leave a room, take a quick look around for anything that isn’t where it should be. Pick it up and put it where it belongs. Insist that everyone in the household do the same.

3. Sort the Mail
Take a few minutes to open, read, and sort mail as soon as you bring it inside. Keep a trash bin near your sorting area for junk mail. Drop other mail into one of four in-boxes: personal correspondence, bills, catalogs, and filing.
