What is the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration (& What it isn’t!)

20120529 233438 224x300 What is the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration (& What it isnt!)Today kicks off the 2013 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. And while I’ve attended the #DisneySSMoms Celebration (not conference!) the past two years, I will not be there for the 2013 event.

(Pause for a moment of silence).

Yes, I know – I too am (naturally) disappointed…but more than that, I’m grateful to have been chosen to participate in the Disney extravaganza in 2011 and 2012.

That’s right, chosen. I think there are a lot of misnomers out there about what exactly the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration is, so as a token of gratitude and in a spirit of education, I thought I’d both clarify what DSSM is…and what it isn’t:

(I think this is also a good time to mention that I am not a Disney spokesperson, am not and never have been employed by Disney, nor was I asked to write this post. This is purely my opinion and insight for the help of clarifying  based on my personal experiences for all who ever have been or hope to be a part of this spectacular event).

Disney Social Media Moms Celebration: What it isn’t

1. Disney Social Media Moms is not a conference

Just look at the name: “Disney Social Media Moms Celebration”. Started under the radar in 2010, the Disney Social Media team invited a selected group of bloggers to experience Walt Disney World in a unique way for a 4 day event. The 2011 DSSM Celebration accepted applications, but fell under a huge backlash after applicants didn’t understand that ‘application acceptance’ didn’t equate with ‘conference attendance’. 2012 went back to a pure invitation format. As mentioned above, I was fortunate to have been invited to both the 2011 and 2012 events, both of which were a brilliant combination of speakers and events to not only take my blogging and social media to the next level, but to share what’s up and coming with the Disney Organization, which leads me to my next point…

2. Disney Social Media Moms is not a giant Disney commercial

Not to give too much credit to the nay-sayers, but criticism has come up that the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration is nothing more that a giant, glorified Walt Disney World commercial. It isn’t…and I have one simple way to explain it. I think it’s safe to say that anyone attending is a HUGE Disney fan (I know I am!). So what Disney fan wouldn’t want a sneak peak at what’s up and coming in the land of the mouse? Not only do celebration attendants get to experience the parks and hotels in some pretty unique ways, but we are privy to finding out about what’s up and coming in their future plans (for instance, last year we got a preview of the New Fantasyland, as well of the Art of Animation Resort – both of which opened after the event).

20120429 081856 300x224 What is the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration (& What it isnt!)

3. Disney Social Media Moms is not free

While the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration is presented to its participants at a GREATLY reduced cost over regular Disney Parks & Resorts standard pricing, there is still a fee to participate and participants must pay their own travel to and from the event. However, I think anyone who has attended the event would unanimously agree with me in saying that the experience FAR outweighs any cost associated with getting there icon smile What is the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration (& What it isnt!)

So in case you couldn’t glean from my points above what exactly the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration IS, let me help you out

The Disney Social Media Moms Celebration is…

    • an event bringing bloggers and their families together to experience Walt Disney World and the Disney family of brands in a truly unique ( & magical) way!
    • an invitation only, four day event comprised of both well-known and new bloggers, all for the purpose of helping them expand their blogging know-how & social media reach while fueling their passion for Disney with sneak peaks into what’s ahead for the company
    • a chance to hear amazing, intelligent and encouraging speakers from the media, business, PR, travel & blogging worlds
    • a way to meet some incredible bloggers in real life
    • an opportunity to interview some of the brains behind the Disney shows we love

  • and of course, an opportunity to create memories that will last a lifetime at one of our family’s favorite places on earth: Walt Disney World.

I wanted to send a sparkle of Pixie Dust to ALL the celebrants attending this year’s Social Media Moms event. I would be lying if I didn’t admit I wanted to be there with you all, but of course am proud of the organizers for wanting to introduce a new crop of Social Media Moms (& dads!) into the mix.

Here’s hoping I get to “See You Real Soon” again in 2014!

Top 3 Ways to Save on Spring Break Travel

IMG 6162 300x300 Top 3 Ways to Save on Spring Break Travel

For many of us Spring Break is really upon us, so whether you’re looking to save on Spring Break trips you’ve already booked, or you simply need some tips to make a last minute getaway possible, I’ve got the details on my top ways to save on spring break travel that I shared recently on Fox 17 TN Mornings!

top ways to save spring break travel Top 3 Ways to Save on Spring Break Travel

1. Book a Spring Break Staycation in your Hometown

With the economy being what it is, every town is looking to take care of their locals. Contact your local Convention & Visitors Bureau to find the most up-to-date tips on what fun & free activities are being offered this spring break. Here in Nashville, metro students can visit the Country Music Hall of Fame for free, plus get discounts for the adults accompanying them…and that’s just one example!

2. Spring Break Day Trip

We’re lucky living in Nashville: within just a couple hours we can drive to great destinations like Chattanooga, Atlanta, Birmingham, Memphis… I could go on! We even love heading up to Chicago in our car (don’t forget, there’s a Legoland Discovery Center & American Girl Store there!). Look at where you could get to within a day and then call your intended tourist destination to see if they partner with any local hotels to offer discounted packages.

Screen Shot 2013 03 13 at 10.02.45 PM Top 3 Ways to Save on Spring Break Travel

We’re planning a 2 day trip to Chattanooga because we found out about the Tennessee Aquarium’s package with The Chattanoogan; not only will we get to stay at Chattanooga’s only AAA Four Diamond-rated full-service hotel, but we’ll also be able to take advantage of all the great things the TN Aquarium is offering for spring break (we’re especially excited about the Keeper Kids program that’s free with admission!).

In fact, several hotels in the area are offering special Spring Break packages with discounts up to 30% off, so just when you thought you couldn’t afford to travel at the last minute, here you go!

3. Pick Famous Spring Break Travel Destinations

Normally I tell people to avoid traveling when everyone else is, but if you want to travel to some of the top Spring Break destinations, play different hotels against each other and use the competition to your advantage to get a good price! Sometimes an old-fashioned telephone call to the manager on duty can do wonders to drop your hotel rate!

If you have a great relationship with a hotel chain, of course check with them first, otherwise be willing to stay somewhere new. A few Orlando properties offering special spring break rates:
*The Castle Hotel (1.877.317.5753)
*Hard Rock Hotel Orlando (stay more, save more – up to 30% off!)
*Orlando World Center Marriott“More is Less” Sale -15% off three-night stays or 20% off four-night getaways - starting at $155/night, bookable now for stays May 1- May 15, 2013.
*staySky Hotel (with the fabulous “Pirate Plunge” pool & 17% savings through 3/31)

These are just a few ideas to help you this Spring Break and for future Spring travel.

IMAX Chattanooga Kids Review: “10 million times better than I expected!”

20130323 210840 200x300 IMAX Chattanooga Kids Review: 10 million times better than I expected!
It would be one thing for me to tell you how great my first experience at the TN Aquarium’s IMAX theater was, but I thought it would be much more valuable for you to hear my kids’ review of their first IMAX movie.

About halfway through “Born to be Wild 3D”, my 7 year old son leaned over to me and whispered, “Mom, this is 10 million times better than I expected!”

You see, I can’t exactly remember the last time I saw an IMAX movie, but I’m pretty sure it dates back to the last time Michael Jordan & Bugs Bunny partnered together for a full-length film…

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

The night before going on our first IMAX adventure, I decided to pump my kids up by showing them the Chattanooga IMAX movie trailers on YouTube. However I have to be honest; after watching the previews, my kids weren’t super excited about going to the IMAX.

Sure, the images were beautiful, but my kids were not instantly compelled to spend 45 minutes in a theater watching pretty pictures of animals.

We didn’t realize just how much those opinions would soon change…

We had three IMAX 3D movie choices:
*Born to Be Wild 3D
*Flight of the Butterflies 3D
*The Last Reef 3D

main flight butterflies 300x97 IMAX Chattanooga Kids Review: 10 million times better than I expected!

When our family was first invited to attend an IMAX movie after our day at the Aquarium, “Born to be Wild” came highly recommended. But I really thought my daughter would want to see the “Flight of the Butterflies” because the Butterfly Garden is one of our favorite experiences at the Aquarium’s Ocean Journey. We also thought the images from “The Last Reef” looked stunning, but none of us were compelled enough for that to be in the running.

So it came down to a decision between the first two, but we ultimately decided to go with the original recommendation we got because the story seemed the most interesting and heartwarming.

Born to be Wild 3D” narrated by Academy-Award® winner Morgan Freeman, documents orphaned orangutans and elephants and the extraordinary people —saving these endangered species one life at a time.

BTBW POSTER IMAX Chattanooga Kids Review: 10 million times better than I expected!

The IMAX theater itself is something to behold, but once you put on those 3D glasses and the film starts, that’s when we were truly transported, both literally and emotionally.

I may have cried…

I am not your typical animal person: I’m allergic to most house pets, I get annoyed when I see dogs in strollers in stores and I don’t understand when people alter their travel plans for their animals.

Yet this film moved me.

Watching how these women dedicated their lives to rescuing, rehabilitating and returning these animals to their natural habitat was absolutely inspiring. And don’t even get me started on the stunning visual imagery and moving narration provided by Morgan Freeman.

Throughout this IMAX film, my kids kept leaning over to me and saying, “I’m so glad we didn’t go home early” and “I should have listened to you mom – this is better than I ever could have imagined!”.

Here are some closing comments directly from my kids. First, from my 8 year old daughter when asked what she would say to another kid, like her, who wasn’t sure if they wanted to see an IMAX movie:
It’s a lot funner than you think, it’s a huge screen, and Born to be Wild is the best (since that’s the one we saw). It was really, really good. It’s about elephants and orangoutangs. It was a great story about how two ladies who raised elephants and orangoutangs and how they released some into the wild because they were old enough. It was very cute and I loved it.

And from my 7 year old son when asked the same question (as if the “it was a million times better than I expected” comment wasn’t enough):
I didn’t really want to go because I didn’t think it would be so good… but it was really good.

Children under 3 are free at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater in Chattanooga, and if you want to add an IMAX ticket on to your Aquarium ticket, it’s only an extra $6 (Now that’s value!). The theater is about a block away from the Aquarium, so I recommend what we did: get to the Aquarium when it first opens, spend a couple hours there, catch a movie around lunch time, and then you can always return to the aquarium for more fun after the film is done!

Have you ever been to the Chattanooga IMAX 3D theater? If so, what was your favorite film?

Flight Park Nashville Airport Parking Review – a tale of poor customer service

To be completely honest, I gave a lot of thought as to whether I should write this review of Flight Park Nashville, whose airport parking services we chose to use this past week after purchasing a Groupon.

Realistically, sharing my experiences with my friends is what I did way before I started blogging (don’t we all?). But now that I have a public voice, with that comes responsibility.

But I was EXTREMELY disappointed in our experience with Flight Park tonight and would hate for any of you to be treated the way I treated.

The deciding factor for me in whether or not to write this unsolicited review of Flight Park airport parking was that a slightly similar experience happened with the Nashville parking service we typically use (Executive Parking), but with a MUCH different result. So if they had enough wherewithall to handle a mistake with grace and dignity, I don’t know why others couldn’t possess the same basic human skills as well.

UPDATE: I was contacted by Eric, the co-owner of Flight Park expressing his great concern over the fact that I had a less than desirable experience. He said in the 12 years he’s been in business, he’s had less than a handful of negative complaints. I truly appreciate the fact that he reached out to me and I suggested there needs to be a different level of customer service amongst his employees, especially those in an ownership role. He felt my blog post was very harsh, and did not appreciate that I said there was a lack of common sense used. Obviously, I’m not in the airport parking business and trust he knows how to run his business better than I do and that I may be an anomaly in this situation.

I ended the conversation by saying that regardless of whether or not we agree or disagree, I can’t change the way I was made to feel (much like I can’t tell my 8 year old daughter to stop crying when she’s upset, regardless of whether it’s a rational reason or not). Bottom line is this: I will accept the fact that what happened to me at Flight Park was not their usual level of service and the fact that Eric went through the trouble to rectify the situation speaks volumes to me. It’s just unfortunate that I was made to feel the way I did.

*****
Here’s the low down:
We arrived at Nashville International Airport around 6:30pm after logging a 12 hour day up to that point. We gathered our bags from baggage claim and called Flight Park as we were instructed to do. Making our way to the ground transporation with (admittedly) far too many bags and two small children was not what I would call a quick process, but, as I later explained to the manager, it’s not like I was hanging out, chit-chatting with the locals while smoking a cigarette either.

It appeared that we just missed a shuttle pulling away from us as we made it outside, so we proceeded to the pickup location. Seeing as it was in the teens and we just emerged from 70 degree weather, we weren’t thrilled about waiting outside, but we also didn’t’ want to risk missing another shuttle by waiting in the ‘waiting room’.

We noticed both of their competitors each had two shuttles come while we continued to wait, so I called again. They said two shuttles were on their way. When we finally saw a shuttle, they announced they couldn’t stop where we were standing – apparently, we were on the left side of the sign instead of the right (a detail that they failed to mention to us, but in all fairness to them, did turn out to be on the bottom of the back side of our parking receipt).

The shuttle driver shouted so much as that out the window as he passed by us. By the time we got the kids and the luggage together and made our way to the right pickup location, the shuttle had filled again and left us on the sidewalk.

So I called again.

They assured me a second shuttle was on its way, and it did show up a minute later.

To our surprise again, we let ourselves into a shuttle with absolutely no heat going on. After our family and another couple loaded in and the driver finished loading the bags, we had to ask for him to turn the heat on.

He radioed ‘base’ and told them our names and that we were on our way back. When we arrived, we found our van with the trunk open, front windows down, and the heat blaring out the car at 84 degrees.

But here’s the kicker: it had been running for 25 minutes!!!!

Would you EVER sit anywhere in your car and let the engine run with full heat and open windows for 5 minutes, much less 25?

Not this girl.

Perhaps my mistake is that I operate in this world with a basic understanding of common sense and expect others to do so as well. Obviously, my expectations are too high.

When I went in to the office, they let me know I had no balance because of my Groupon. I questioned whether or not to say anything else because there was another customer in there and while I believe in being honest, there’s no need to embarrass anyone.

However, they asked how I was, so I proceeded to tell them how shocked I was that our engine had been left running for so long. Here are a few of the responses I got back from them:
“How do you know it was 25 minutes?”
“What’s wrong with that?”
“Why did you wait so long before getting on the shuttle?” (This is when I offered then the above-mentioned cigarette smoking comment along with the question of whether or not they’d sit in their car in a parking lot with the engine running for 25 minutes).

I got blank stares. I got snarky comments thrown my way. He made his frustration with me clear. There may have eventually been a pathetic apology, but it was masked with a blatant disregard for any sense of customer service.

He asked me what I wanted, to which I replied, “I want to understand why this happened and I don’t want this to be how my vacation ends).

I got nothin’.

So I walked away, but when I met up with my husband a few steps later and he noticed the workers rolling their eyes and obviously talking unkindly about me as I walked away, I marched myself back in there to confront the men.

WHen asked why they would do such a thing, he denied any such action. When I asked for a manager’s card, he said he was one of the managers. When he then tried to ‘make it right’ by offering me $3 for a gallon of gas, I was mortified.

Really?

I suppose you get what you pay for.

At the very end of the exchange, the second worker decided to pipe up in his company’s defense and said that they left windows open because ’90% of cards these days auto-lock once the engine is running, so it’s for everyone’s safety’…because leaving the trunk flung open isn’t protection enough against a lock-out?

Again, I don’t understand the lack of common sense.

I finally walked away, realizing this wasn’t how I wanted my vacation to end and coming to MY senses that I wasn’t getting anywhere with these people.

****

(Afternote: I’ve sat on this for a week or so and debated again whether of not to publish this, but ultimately decided to post because it met the criteria for everything else I post…to help YOU!)

A New Way to Travel with LEGO®: the LEGO® YouTube Channel!

If you’re the parent of an elementary aged child, there are four letters that, when built together (literally), I’m positive are very common in your house: LEGO®!

I remember thinking just a few years ago, “What’s the fascination with LEGO®? Why are parents spending so much money on little plastic bricks?”

Then my son turned 5…

To be honest, there’s something endearing about this classic, imagination-enhancing toy

While my daughter would help her little brother with a build every now and then, it wasn’t until she discovered LEGO® Friends last year that she really got on board the LEGO® train.

Speaking of the LEGO® train, that brings up another less popular phenomenon with parents: traveling with your LEGOs. With all the toys we buy our kids, I find it ironic that these are toys that make their way into our car more than any other.

(If you decide to take the plunge into the dangerous car LEGO® world, take my advice and invest in a dollar store cookie sheet to put on your child’s lap and keep in the backseat…you’ll thank me later!)

However, if you are a little reticent about allowing these precious plastic blocks to leave the safety of your home, I have a brilliant new option for you: the LEGO® Youtube Channel!

Check it out: What I especially love is that it’s super easy to build your own video playlist. So whether your kids love LEGO® Star Wars™ like mine do, or you want to make them their own mix of animated videos and TV trailers, the choice is yours! So now you can take the fun of LEGO® on the road with you…without the fear of picking colorful blocks and mini light sabers out of the car seats after your road trip icon wink A New Way to Travel with LEGO®: the LEGO® YouTube Channel!

With everything out there on the web these days, creating a playlist on the Official LEGO® Channel is a great way to ensure your kids are entertained and watching videos you can feel good about.

Gaylord Opryland Hotel Christmas Must-Do’s 2012

IMG 7802 225x300 Gaylord Opryland Hotel Christmas Must Dos 2012
If you’re planning a visit to the Gaylord Opryland Hotel this Christmas in Nashville, TN, then you can’t afford to miss my “Must Do” list for Christmas 2012!

There are SO many amazing things to see and do at the Gaylord Opryland Resort hotel, especially during Christmas, that I decided to take my years of first-hand experience at the most “Christmassy” hotel in America and condense it into my top things to see and do while visiting Opryland.

I had the chance to speak with my friend (& General Manager of Gaylord Opryland hotel) Pete Weien about the 29th Annual “A Country Christmas” this year and we shared our favorite experiences Opryland has to offer this season:

First of all, here are some of my top tips for enjoying Christmas at Gaylord Opryland Hotel:
1. Take advantage of what’s free
There is so much to see and do just by simply walking around Opryland Resort: the nativity with the Christmas story being told, the beautiful lights lining the drive to the Magnolia Lobby, the new addition of the Nutcrackers throughout the resort this year and so much more! It’s worth the drive over just to walk through the property (But don’t forget your camera to take lots of pictures!)

2. Eat at an Opryland restaurant and Valet Park for free!
Yes, when you eat at one of the Opryland sit-down restaurants, your valet parking is validated! My favorites are the fries at the Irish Pub and the table-side freshly made guacamole at Solario.

3. Avoid the weekends
It is nearly impossible to get off the highway during the weekends, sometimes resulting in a 2-3 mile line off the exit. If you are planning a trip to ICE! or the Rockettes during the weekend, allow an extra hour just for travel/parking from the highway.

4. Park at Opry Mills
Now that the Opry Mills Outlet Mall is back open, we once again have a first-rate outlet mall right in our backyard…and it happens to literally be in the backyard of the Opryland hotel! Why not park in the Opry Mills lot situated between the Grand Ole Opry and the new Opryland Events center (where ICE! is) and then you’ll be perfectly poised to take in everything Opryland has to offer (ICE!, Rockettes, shopping and all that lives inside the Opryland resort!).

5. Wear Comfy Shoes
Gaylord Opryland is a lot of things…but it’s not small! You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so make sure to invest a pair of cute shoes or boots ladies! (Remember point 4 above!). Pack a variety of shoes for the kids so they don’t get blisters and don’t forget a pair of flip flops for the indoor pool!

My next best advice would be to book a 3 day package at Opryland to take it all in at your leisure.

Book a Gaylord Opryland DreamWorks Christmas Package

If you have kids, they’re going to love the Christmassy Dreamworks Experience Package! For us, this is the ultimate way to enjoy ALL that Opryland offers during Christmas and not have to worry about opening our wallet once we’re there! Packages start at $199 and include the following:
Accommodations at Gaylord Opryland Resort, Upgraded ICE! VIP Experience ticket including front of line access to ICE! featuring DreamWorks Shrek the Halls, a piping cup of delicious hot chocolate and a Gingy Meet and Greet, ShrekFeast Interactive Character Meal (our kids’ favorite!), DreamWorks Character Holiday Meet & Greets, Scavenger Hunt featuring “Rise of the Guardians”, VIP seating for the Holiday Shrektacular, UPGRADED DreamWorks Collectible Madagascar Gift Bag Welcome Amenity with Package Check-In to also include Puss in Boots/Kitty Softpaws key chains and activity book, Souvenir Family Photo and even Special Wake-Up Calls by DreamWorks Characters!

I know not everyone can afford the time or money for an Opryland Christmas package, so if you absolutely have to pick and choose, here are my favorite Gaylord Opryland offerings in order of preference this Christmas:
IMG 7662 300x300 Gaylord Opryland Hotel Christmas Must Dos 2012
1. The Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular
The Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular happens to be one of my favorite shows of all time (yes, I said it…and I’m not just including Christmas shows in this category!). What these women do with their legs is AMAZING, and it keeps getting better and better every year. We are so lucky to have the show right here in Nashville at another institution in its own right, the Grand Ole Opry, and it is the perfect show for families of all ages to get into the Christmas Spirit. (Read my full Rockettes show review…)

IMG 7818 225x300 Gaylord Opryland Hotel Christmas Must Dos 2012
2. ShrekFeast Interactive Character Meal
Outside of Orlando, I’m not sure where you can find character dining like this! Guests are treated to the high quality food you’ve come to expect from Gaylord Opryland while also being visited by DreamWorks characters like Shrek, Fiona & Puss in Boots. Kids love the “Swamp Juice” and “Green” chocolate fountain for dessert. I love the wide array of choices for adults too, such as the fresh berry selection and custom egg station. (Read my full Shrek Feast review)

IMG 7650 300x225 Gaylord Opryland Hotel Christmas Must Dos 2012
3. ICE!
ICE! is quite a phenomenon…especially if you live in an area (like Florida or Texas) where snow doesn’t typically fall. It takes 40 artisans from China over 3 months to create this indoor winter wonderland that depicts some of your favorite fairy tale characters. This year’s ICE! takes you through the story of “Shrek the Halls!” with Shrek, Fiona and all their friends. I think this year’s ICE! is better than ever, but even in saying that, it is a pretty hefty price tag considering it’s 9 degrees in side and you can’t stay in there that long! If you’re looking for ICE! ticket discounts at any of the Gaylord resorts, I’ve got those for you too icon wink Gaylord Opryland Hotel Christmas Must Dos 2012 (Read my ICE! review here…)

There are also a ton of other offerings at Gaylord Opryland this Christmas, such as Lorrie Morgan’s Enchanted Dinner Show and the Holly Jolly Town Square, but they’re not worth the investment in my honest opinion. I’d much rather spend my money on staying in the hotel and enjoying my surroundings rather than a dinner show with my family.

Of course, don’t forget the other free fun, like pictures with Santa and the DreamWorks Scavenger Hunt. However, I don’t think there’s anything our family enjoys more than waking up to the voice of our favorite Shrek character, opening up the doors to our veranda and sitting out on our balcony and enjoying the atrium.

I hope you have the chance to enjoy Christmas at Gaylord Opryland not only this year, but for many years to come! What is your favorite part of the Gaylord Opryland resort at Christmas?

“Cuddle CuddleUppets, blankets that are puppets!”

If you’re a parent, there’s no doubt you’ve caught your kids singing this catchy jingle (and most likely gotten it stuck in your head!). But you might not know exactly what CuddleUppets are or why your kids needed one. Now, not only will you know, but you can win one for your kids in the Christmas CuddleUppets giveaway!

Not only are CuddleUppets a Dr. Toy Best Product 2012 award winner but they’ve also been awarded the Parent Tested, Parent Approved (PTPA) Seal of Approval. “CuddleUppets are the perfect travel companion for any little one. A puppet, a blanket and a friend all rolled into one,” said Sharon Vinderline of Parent Tested Parent Approved.

I also loved what Kim Orlando, founder of TravelingMom.com had to say about CuddleUppets:
“CuddleUppets are the perfect triple-duty must-pack kid accessory. It’s a triple play for kids: a puppet, a blanket and a friend. It’s priced right and kids can use their imagination to play with it. I can wash it when they’re done and, best of all, the kids don’t mind carrying it themselves.”

I have to admit, I didn’t want to like these things. I didn’t think our kids needed one more thing to clutter up their bed, but we were traveling at the time when we came across them, so I fell victim to their pouty lips and cute-kid pleas.

I’m glad I did.

They truly have been a great travel companion, whether in the car or on a plane. Plus, they’ve just been great snuggle buddies for around the house too!

There are 8 varieties to choose from: Pink Poodle, Purple Monkey, Yellow Puppy, Green Crocodile, Blue Elephant Brown Bear, Pink Ladybug and Magic Unicorn. We have the monkey and the bear, but I think the new unicorn may be in our future as well…and at only $19.99 the price is right!

Have you seen inside the Art of Animation resort at Walt Disney World yet? I’ve got a peak inside the Cars Family Suite for you this Christmas at the newest Disney resort, the Art of Animation.

If you watch the video, I also give you a tour inside Animation Hall, which houses registration, the “Ink & Paint” Food Court as well as the gift shop and arcade.

Here’s the tree inside the Art of Animation lobby:

I got to bunk with my friend Joey Fortman in a Cars Family Suite for the night while in Orlando for some meetings. The Art of Animation resort is 75% family suites, which means you can fit up to 6 people in these rooms. Take a look:

Each room contains a main bedroom with its own bathroom, a separate family room area with its own bathroom, a couch that folds out into a bed and a kitchenette. As you saw, they also have a family friendly desk with a murphy bed – too cool!

The courtyard around the Cars Family suites are also pretty amazing. It looks like you stepped right out of the movie into Radiator Springs!

I also LOVE the CARS details in the rooms. Of course this has nothing to do with the fact that our last name resembles most of the decorations…

I can’t wait to bring my family back to the Art of Animation suites here at one of our favorite vacation destinations, Disney World! The New Fantasyland also opens this week. Unfortunately I won’t have a chance to go into the parks this trip, but we can’t wait to uncover the fun and make even more memories here.

Have any of you stayed at the Art of Animation resort yet? Which section would you choose: Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Cars or Finding Nemo?

Disney Halloween Fun & Activities at Disney Parks & at Home!

IMG 4056 300x200 Disney Halloween Fun & Activities at Disney Parks & at Home!

Looking for some Disney Halloween fun and activities both at Disney Parks and at home this week? While we love Disney at any time of year, I’ve never felt the urge to go for Halloween because I never knew if it would be too scary for my little ones…even though I’ve heard “Mickey’s Not-So Scary Halloween Party” is one of the best times of the year to go to Disney Parks.

So I asked my friend Lisa from Babes in Disneyland to share some of her expertise and experiences during this time of year at Disney with all of you to gain a little deeper insight into what goes on at Disneyland during Halloween and how you can bring some of the Disney decorating magic home if you can’t make it to Disney Parks. The following is a guest blog from Lisa:

Disneyland is known for its magic and fun throughout the year, but many fans may not realize that the Halloween season has become one of the most popular times of year. In mid September each year, Disneyland is transformed into an autumn wonderland filled with festive décor, savory foods and more pumpkins than you can shade a witch’s broom at.

The cornerstone of Disneyland’s Halloween celebration is Haunted Mansion Holiday. Each year, the Mansion is taken over by the sights and sounds from Tim Burton’s “Nightmare Before Christmas.” Inside and out, Haunted Mansion Holiday is decorated with the whimsy and bright colors the film has become known for. This year, Haunted Mansion Holiday is celebrating its twelfth year at Disneyland and there’s no end in site for this annual Park tradition. Find out a little more about how this attraction “comes to life” (or should I say death?) each year, what’s planned for the thirteenth anniversary and what Jack Skellington thinks of it all.

In addition to Haunted Mansion Holiday, Disneyland provides a number of exciting opportunities for families to create memories with young children. From pumpkin carving, art and game activities and petting goats and sheep at Big Thunder Ranch to becoming a pirate at the new Pirates League, Disneyland offers a lot of truly remarkable experiences for young children this time of year.

To make the Halloween season even more special for Disneyland fans and families, the Park offers a special separate-ticket Halloween event each year called Mickey’s Halloween Party. On party days, the park closes a little early and guests attending this fun and “not-so-spooky” evening get to experience Halloween Disney style. Party goers get to trick-or-treat throughout the park in costume, experience the “Halloween Screams” fireworks spectacular hosted by “Master of Scare-omonies” Jack Skellington, attend dance parties throughout the park, meet unique characters at fun photo locations throughout the park, experience “Mickey’s Costume Party” cavalcade and much, much more!

Can’t make it to the Disneyland Resort this Halloween season? Do not fret! There are lots of things Disney fans can do to bring the magic of Disneyland home! While Disney websites like Spoonful.com and the Disney Parks Blog offer great recipes and craft ideas, you can’t beat the craft ideas below from Disney decorating guru, Dave Caranci.
