Ok, so I find it odd that on my family blog where I do little else but talk about the funny things my kids say and babble about the interesting (to me) things that God reveals to me during the in-between moments of my day, the most popular seach is “Why did Drew Middleton leave Tenth Avenue North?” Really? Why don’t more people want to know about what I cook and whether or not my kids eat it?

What's Cookin': 11/23

Yeah! It’s Thanksgiving week! What a wonderful time of year this is. I am truly blessed to be in such a beautiful city with my family and I plan on counting ALL my blessings as we celebrate Thanksgiving in a new home and a new city this year.
The menu plan isn’t too innovative this week as I’m trying to once again eat out of our freezer and our stockpile to prepare room for later in the week. While I plan on doing a post later on what our Thanksgiving dinner will consist of, I can tell you that as of my conversation with my husband last night, his wish list is as follows:
Turkey (I know, shocker…I can see you’re riveted to learn more!), gravy, dressing, baked corn, garlic green beans, mashed potatoes, roasted parsnips & carrots, hash brown casserole, mac & cheese, cranberry salad, rolls, greens, deviled eggs, lima beans, pea salad and of course, lots of pie!
There are 2 major concerns I have with this “wish list”:
1. I don’t eat or know how to make half of those items
2. There are only 4 of us, with only 2 others who have confirmed that hey are joining us thus far, so I think I’d need to invite about 23 others if we hoped to eat all that food!

A Gaither Giveaway

You all know by now that this Chicago native with a Jewish father and British mother knew very little about the South and its glorious ways until I met my husband: Grits, the Grand Ole Opry and yes, even the Gaither Vocal Band alluded me.
I know – I hear the gasp of shock from all of you who live below the Mason Dixon line. The first time he showed me a Homecoming on tv, I asked, “Why are they all sitting on the stage?” When my husband finished laughing, I followed it with, “…and how do they know the words to all those songs?” …he still hasn’t let me live it down.
While I still don’t know all the songs and harmonies of this amazing group, I’ve come to love and appreciate their great talent and faith. I especially connected with Bill Gaither recently when he appeared on Talk of the Town after me and referenced the School Board from The Music Man as the start of the great four-part male harmonies (The Music Man was one of the first musicals I ever saw and to this day continues to be one of me and my family’s favorites!).
The good news for you all is that they are coming to Nashville for a Gaither Homecoming Christmas Tour on December 4th at the Sommet Center and I’m giving away a 4-pack of tickets! Not only will they be singing many Christmas classics, but they’ll also be singing many of your favorite Gaither songs. Here is how you can enter:

This week’s Publix Penny Item is…

Remember, you can get one penny item for every $10 you spend (before coupons). One item per transaction. Some stores will let you break up your shopping into multiple transactions to get multiple Penny Items. This is good for November 22 & 23, 2009. Florida stores do not participate, but often have their own in-store weekend specials; inquire at customer service. Publix reserves the right to change the Penny Item if they choose, so don’t wait until Monday night if this is an item you really want!
I did a quick walk through Publix a few days ago and found some great BOGO’s that I’m going to match up with coupons today.
