Watch Church Online: Easter Services (Crosspoint & Christ Fellowship)

If you’re not sure about going to church this Easter, or simply cannot physically get to church, I would encourage you to watch church online this Easter and check out the following services from two of my favorite churches: Crosspoint (in Nashville, TN) and Christ Fellowship (Palm Beach Gardens, FL).

Looking to watch church online anytime? I have a list for you…

Actually, those locations aren’t exactly accurate: both churches describe themselves as “one church that meets in multiple locations” and both have several different campuses around their respective cities. You see, Christ Fellowship was my church home from the time I came to know Christ when I lived in Jupiter, FL to nine years later when I moved up here to Nashville. Crosspoint has been my church home since 2010.

I love both deeply.

That’s one reason I’m so grateful both offer online services – not only for when I’m traveling and can’t make it to service in person, but so that I can continue to feel like I’m a part of my church families no matter where I am in the world.

I realize Easter is one of those special times of year for multiple reasons:
-for those of us who call Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, we reflect on His crucifixion and celebrate His resurrection
-for those who are not Christians, it represents a time to question – a time to wonder – a time to ponder. It also represents a certain safety in exploring faith…

Yet I recognize (as someone who didn’t grow up in the church), that walking into a church on Easter Sunday can seem extremely intimidating. While most churches go out of their way to make people feel welcome on any given Sunday, they are out in full force on Easter Sunday. This simple act of hospitality can seem overwhelming to those of us who have never experienced the warmth of God’s unconditional love, the hope of His grace or the promise of His forgiveness…

So whether you find yourself simply on the road away from your church home or align with this latter group I just mentioned, I would encourage you to check out one of my two church homes’ online services this Easter!

7 Tips for Cheap Easter Baskets: Talk of the Town March 2013

pin it button 7 Tips for Cheap Easter Baskets: Talk of the Town March 2013

If you caught my segment on Talk of the Town on March 26, 2013, then you heard me give my top 7 tips for creating cheap, yet meaningful, Easter baskets that you’ll be proud to present to your family!

In case you missed my Easter Basket TV segment, I’ve broken down my tips for you here:

20130326 173258 7 Tips for Cheap Easter Baskets: Talk of the Town March 2013

1. Use a Homemade Easter Basket
-Have fun making an Easter basket with your kids or even covering up whatever bucket they used for Halloween with paper they’ve colored. Look around your house for plastic beach buckets, tin pails, even old Build A Bear boxes!

2. Invest in an Heirloom Easter Basket
-Even before our first child was born, my husband had a certain type of Easter basket he envisioned for our kids: white wicker with gingham basket liners. So before our firstborn could hold a basket, she already owned said trinket with her name embroidered on it from Pottery Barn Kids. When #2 came along, it wasn’t before we ordered his in green gingham. It might not be as cheap as making your own, but if it’s something you’ll keep and re-use year to year (as we have for the past 8 years), the cost definitely evens out.

3. Re-Use Raw Materials from Year to Year
-You can’t tell me it’s that hard to throw all those plastic eggs and Easter grass in the same box you keep your Easter baskets and other seasonal decorations. Nothing pains me more than watching people pay out their nose for those plastic eggs in March only to realize they’ll be 25 cents in a couple weeks and that it would have been so easy for them to save for next year!

4. Decorate Your Own Easter Eggs (both real & plastic!)
-For most kids, the egg hunt is more highly anticipated than the actual eggs themselves. Take the eggs mentioned in tip #3 along with some paint pens and let your kids have at it! For the hunt, you can add a coin to each or even a Bible verse on a small strip of paper if you want to have something inside them. Or just skip the plastic eggs altogether and dye your own hard-boiled eggs…but if you do go that route, make sure you don’t forget where in the house you hide them! (Or better yet, opt for an outdoor egg hunt icon wink 7 Tips for Cheap Easter Baskets: Talk of the Town March 2013

5. More is not Always Better
-When you consider all the candy and tchotchkes (which is essentially a Yiddish term for ‘junk’) kids will be receiving from school, relatives and community events, the burden is truly off of us as parents to be the sole source of Easter Basket wonder. If your kids are used to getting presents in their Easter baskets, try to opt for one ‘meaningful’ gift instead of a bunch of trinkets that will be easily forgotten about.

20130326 173310 7 Tips for Cheap Easter Baskets: Talk of the Town March 2013

6. If you’re going to give candy, go for the good stuff you know they’ll love
-Skip the generic, pastel foil wrapped solid mini chocolate eggs. They’ll just end up melted in your car’s backseat floor mat. If you’re going to buy your kids Easter candy, go with something you know they’ll love (or at least something you’ll love since they’ll most likely be sugared out before they even get to Easter morning!). I’m very partial to Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs – I’d argue that they are the best candy of ALL time…not just amongst its Easter candy cohorts.

7. Look around you
-We’ve learned that our kids are just as excited to receive ‘momentos’ from us or small objects we, as their loving parents, assign meaning to just as much (if not more) than another dollar store stuffed animal that will just end up in a garbage bag during your next move.

An Unorthodox Easter Story : Tommy Nelson March Blog

unorthodox easter story An Unorthodox Easter Story : Tommy Nelson March Blog

Today you can find me over at the Tommy Nelson blog with a bit of an Un-Orthodox Easter story.

Growing up, I really didn’t give religion much of a chance…let alone a relationship with Christ.

As an only child who grew up with parents of different religions (a Jewish father and an Anglican mother from England – neither of whom regularly practiced their faith, mind you…), you could say I was a bit confused.

Take it from someone who came to know Christ later in life, Easter represents a time when people are seeking to know more about Jesus…or at least are much more open to hearing about Him because of the way the world celebrates. This fact alone makes the road easier to invite others to listen to your Christ story.

And that’s all you need to share with people who ask: your storyRead the rest of my post over on TommyNelson.com

But before you jump over to the Tommy Nelson blog to read a little more about my un-Orthodox Easter story, why not enter to win one of my newest, favorite Tommy Nelson books: Sheila Walsh’s “Shine Your Light” devotional.

If you love Gigi, God’s Little Princess (which I just heard even Suri Cruise is a HUGE fan of…to the point that she’s asked people to start calling her Gigi!), then you will really fall in love with Gabby, God’s Little Angel.

One thing all kids can appreciate is the comfort of knowing angels watch over them, but Gabby makes being an angel even more relatable to the minds of our little ones. Plus, what little girl wouldn’t love this sparkly title?! (If you can’t wait to see if you’ve won, then you can save 20% off this title at ThomasNelson.com when you use code SAMI20).

Kids Easter Question

Yesterday in the car, Britton (my 6 year old) posed a question about Easter that only kids can.

He asked me, “Mommy, which holiday is the most special-est, Easter, Hanukkah or Christmas?”

20120407 162044 Kids Easter Question

I paused to look at my husband, like, “Really? We’re on the way to an Easter egg hunt…where does he come up with these things?”

He gave me a return glance that usually means, “Don’t ask me, he’s your kid,”.  SO the only thing we could come up with was, “What do you think, Britton?”

Before I continue the rest of the story, I’d love to hear what you all would have done in my shoes!

How would you have answered the same question from your child?
