On our recent Girls Getaway, we wanted to review a top Chattanooga Spa: In the Buff Salon & Day Spa.

Launched in 2005 by mother/daughter team Stephanie Hudgens and Sheena Rowland, In the Buff quickly became a popular spa destination amongst celebrities and locals in Chattanooga. They are the first salon and spa to receive the Tennessee Performance Excellence Award (2007) and were voted as one of the top 3 Chattanooga spas for “Best of the Best” in massage…and it’s not hard to see why!

The best of the best in Chattanooga

In the Buff offers an extensive selection of services and products, including couples massages, Brazilian waxes and even large parties. I also thought it was interesting that they offer reward programs, an annual open house and special discounts for all their clients (a dream for this frugal mom!). When given our choice of services at In the Buff, the decision was easy: between knowing the awards they’ve received and listening to my old tennis injuries, we just had to sample the therapeutic massage.

The hydro-massage area

I have to admit, it was a little off the beaten path and we weren’t sure if we had received the right directions when driving over from our hotel. However, once we did arrive, we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome.

The lounge area

We were greeted by name as soon as we entered and escorted into a comfortable waiting area to fill out paperwork and relax before meeting our masseuse. The lounge was a bit small and employees had to keep crossing in front of us to go between their lounge and the massage area, but since we knew what was to come, we hardly minded.

Ashley & Misty warmly greeted us, introduced themselves and guided us into our individual massage rooms. The setting was beautiful and serene – exactly what you hope for when you’re spending the time and money on a day of relaxation.

The location of our relaxation

I was especially impressed by the special touches I’d never experienced at a day spa: a warm towel placed on my feet as we began the massage, hot stones on my back (and Ashley even used the stones to massage my aching back more deeply! I almost took them home with me – it was that wonderful!), and an even more special finishing touch…champagne and strawberries  awaiting us after finishing our treatment.

A sweet treat before we left!

So in traditional SamiCone.com style, let me finish this review with my lists of threes:

Drawbacks:
1. Location – difficult to find
2. Lounge area – small and used as a thoroughfare
3. Sound – could hear some outside sounds in massage room

Obviously these small points would not keep us from returning. Here are our favorite reasons why:

Highlights:
1. Friendliness of staff – Great attention to customer service & eager to please
2. AMAZING massage – seriously one of the best I ever received
3. Special touches – hot stones, champagne & strawberries, warm towels & more!

So if you live in Chattanooga or should find yourself there on a weekend getaway like we did, make sure to pamper yourself at In the Buff!
