Teaching Kids Psalm 23 – Scripture Memorization

Teaching kids Psalm 23: teaching kids how to memorize Psalm 23 through video, song & hand motions.
teaching kids memorize psalm 23 Teaching Kids Psalm 23 Scripture Memorization

In the scripture memorization videos below, I’m teaching my kids Psalm 23.

Psalm 23. It’s six verses and typically I recommend teaching your kids one verse a week, but you can teach this to your kids in a month if you work on it at different times throughout your day. There is no tune to this, and feel free to make it your own as you see fit. Be sure to explain to younger children what the words mean that they may not understand so they can begin to form their own word pictures in their heads.

(Forgive my appearance in this week’s video, I just got over having pink-eye last week, so no makeup for me!)

Here are my kids reciting Psalm 23. First Kariss (age 4):

and Britton (age 3) in a slightly more humorous version:

Psalm 23 text (NIV):

A psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
forever.

Plumb on new Seeds Family Worship Album: Seeds of Character

seeds of character Plumb on new Seeds Family Worship Album: Seeds of Character
I’m so proud to announce that the fabulous team at Seeds Family Worship has released their newest album, “Seeds of Character“…volume 6 in their CD series. What’s even more exciting is that one of my favorite friends, Tiffany Lee (a.k.a. Plumb), co-wrote and sang one of the songs on the album!

The song, “The Wages & The Gift”, features verses Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23. For those of you who haven’t heard of Seeds Family Worship, let me introduce you. Seeds was planted when worship leader, Jason Houser, was asked to write some songs to help kids remember the verses from their summer Bible school. They were so catchy, that it didn’t take long before the first Seeds Worship album was in bloom!

Obviously you know how much I believe in setting scripture to music since I’ve been creating my own scripture memorization songs for kids for awhile now. But you may also have noticed that’s slowed down some lately…due in large part to finding the Seeds albums! What’s particularly great about this music is that not only is it a fun and helpful tool for kids, but it’s really good music that adults will actually want to listen to as well!

Tiffany and her family joined us for our son’s T-ball game last night, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to get a sneak peak at her new song on volume 6, “The Wages & The Gift”. Check out what Tiff had to say…and hear her a capella version of the song (I promise you will not be able to stop singing it!):

Fun, right?! She really does have one of the most amazing voices I’ve ever heard. And just think, if she sounds that good in the grass at a baseball game, imagine how great the studio recording must sound! I know, we’re a bunch of goofballs. Just look at this pic my husband snapped while we were chillin’ and cheering on the bleachers:

Kids Scripture Memory Song: Psalm 1:4-6

For those of you who have been patiently awaiting the finale of Psalm 1, here are verses 4-6:

I lost a lot of previously recorded videos when my laptop crashed, so that’s why you haven’t seen any in awhile. I’m working on taping & creating new ones, so if you have any you’d like to see, just leave a comment below!

Remember, these songs are completely my own because I believe kids scripture memorization is so much easier when set to music. I also use hand signs as well, but they are not traditional ASL, so don’t “quote” me icon smile Kids Scripture Memory Song: Psalm 1:4 6

You can also watch my scripture song for Psalm1:1-2 & Psalm 1:3

Here is the text for all of Psalm 1:

Psalm 1 (New International Version)

1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Kids Scripture Memory Song: Psalm 1:1-2

This week’s song to help your kids memorize scripture is to Psalm 1 verses 1-2:

There are actually 6 verses in Psalm 1, so I’ll go over the next 4 in the coming weeks. Remember, the best times to work on this are first thing in the morning while making/eating breakfast (or anytime in the kitchen!), in the car, or right before bed.

Here is the text:
